Code of Conduct

1. Respect and Inclusion:
  • Treat all members and visitors with respect, regardless of their background, age, or beliefs.
  • Embrace diversity and foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome and valued.

2. Health, Safety and Well-being:

  • Prioritise the health, safety and well-being of all HMS participants.
  • Follow all guidelines, Shed rules, protocols and evacuation procedures, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Report any concerns or incidents promptly to a supervisor or Trustee.

3. Collaboration and Cooperation:

  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration among HMS participants.
  • Respect each other's opinions and ideas, fostering an atmosphere of constructive dialogue.
  • Support and mentor fellow members, promoting a positive learning experience for all.

4. Professionalism:

  • Always maintain a professional demeanour.
  • Dress appropriately, according to the HMS rules, for shed activities and events.
  • Avoid engaging in inappropriate or offensive behaviour to any member or visitor.

5. Confidentiality:

  • Respect the privacy of others and maintain confidentiality.
  • Do not disclose personal or sensitive information without proper authorisation.

6. Responsible HMS Resource Usage:

  • Use HMS machinery, tools, resources and materials responsibly and efficiently.
  • Report any damage or misuse of machinery, tools or resources to a supervisor or Trustee promptly.

7. Compliance with Policies and Laws:

  • Adhere to the HMS policies, guidelines and rules set forth by the HMS Trust.
  • Comply with local laws and regulations during HMS activities.

8. Conflict Resolution:

  • Resolve conflicts in a respectful and constructive manner.
  • Seek assistance from a supervisor, Trustee or mediators if necessary.

9. Continuous Learning:

  • Show enthusiasm for learning and personal growth.
  • Respect the knowledge and experience of others and be open to new ideas.

Shed Rules

  • All members must read and sign the health & Safety policy prior to working in the workshop and have a Duty of Care too fellow “Sheddies”.
  • Only financial members may use the equipment and must sign in when arriving and wear their name badge.
  • There must be a minimum of two members on site at all times during hours of
  • operation, one of whom MUST be a supervisor.
  • Smoking, drugs and alcohol consumption are strictly prohibited on the premises or on site.
  • Machinery or equipment must not be operated unless the member is competent and signed off in familiarisation/evaluation on that particular piece of equipment and have the appropriate coloured stickers on their name badge.
  • Any damage or accident must be reported to the day supervisor immediately and recorded in the incident register.
  • Safety clothing (eye protection, enclosed footwear, PPE as appropriate) must be worn when operating machinery which must be used only in the prescribed hours and areas.
  • All hand tools must be returned to their place in clean, tidy and usable condition and all work areas swept clean at completion of the work session.
  • Personal projects must be approved by the shift supervisor/manager and not impact on other members’ use of space or equipment. Personal items and materials left on site are the individual member’s responsibility.
  • No machinery is to be dismantled, modified, serviced or otherwise altered or tampered with without prior consultation with the daily team leader/manager.
  • Such approved action must be recorded in the day book before such action so the next shift is aware of any alterations.
  • Security is everyone’s responsibility. The last person leaving must ensure the building is safe, vacant, locked and all services, e.g. power, is turned off.

Health & Safety Policy

This policy is based on the premise that we all have a duty of care to ourselves and our fellow 'Sheddies'.

The Trust is committed to maintaining a Safe and Healthy environment for members
and others within its facility.

  • All members present at any work session must sign in and out and wear name badges while on the premises.
  • All participants must be committed to avoid accidents or incidents that may cause injury, property damage or loss of any kind.(All persons attending an activity are deemed to be participants).
  • All members and others are expected to act safely at all times within the facilities.
  • All participants are to report any perceived or real hazards to Duty Supervisor and steps to be taken to mitigate same.
  • All incidents or accidents and safety issues that occur during club activities are to be recorded in the register and all practical steps taken to prevent a recurrence.
  • A visitor registration book is to be kept and filled in with details as required by all visitors to our facilities.
  • Children should generally not be on site, but if so, be under supervision of parent or caregiver/guardian.
  • All members must undergo an Induction Procedure and be signed off on the register as well as be evaluated and signed off for all machinery before use. The latter is linked to a colour code. Completion will be indicated by the appropriate coloured stickers on the name badge.
  • In the event of fire or other emergency the building must be evacuated and all assembled on the carpark and footpath immediately in front of the premises.
